Open positions

 1) PhD or Postdoc: DNA-protein interactions using a combination of optical tweezers and single-molecule     fluorescent microscopy as well as super-resolution microscopy
2) PhD or Postdoc: Investigate the self-assembly of viral-shells using optical tweezers and Atomic Force Microscopy

Right now we are also looking for PhDs or PostDocs to work on our ERC funded project to apply Optical Tweezers and advanced microscopy to study mitotic chromosomes!

Requirements

We are always looking for outstanding experimentalists with a degree in (bio)physics, chemistry, biology or an equivalent degree who is motivated to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment. The group aims at research at the highest international level; candidates that fit into this environment are invited to apply.

Applications

Applications (including motivation & CV) can be addressed to Prof. dr. Gijs J.L. Wuite (gwuite@nat.vu.nl)

 Job description

The successful applicant will perform experiments on DNA-protein systems using single molecule techniques. He or she might work on instrumentation development, be involved in sample preparation, and/or perform biophysical experiments and data analysis.

General conditions of employment PhD

The initial contract is for one year, it can - by mutual agreement - be extended to four years. The aim is to have a thesis finished at the end of the fourth year. The gross monthly starting salary is € ~1900 and increases to € ~2500 in the fourth year.

General conditions of employment Postdoc

The contract is for two or three years. The gross monthly starting salary is € ~2800 or higher depending on experience.

Location

Project will be carried out in the Physics of Living Systems section at the department of Physics and Astronomy, VU University Amsterdam, under supervision of Prof. dr. G.J.L. Wuite. The section has strong expertise in the application of single-molecule methods (optical tweezers, atomic force microscopy and single-molecule fluorescence microscopy) to the study of biological systems such as motor proteins and DNA-binding proteins.
